Meet our founder! After finishing his Peace Corps assignment in Nicaragua and seeing the negative impact of abusive forestry practices, Aram knew he wanted to create a socially and environmentally sustainable brand. So, he, along with Michael Terry, founded MasayaCo.
The first years we spent on regrowing forests of deforested cattle land. Aram found that he could grow more trees if the forest was economically sustainable as well.
Our furniture teak today sustains all our forest reservations in Nicaragua today.
Today, wildlife has returned to our forests and is by far the most satisfying part of walking through it.
After these first years of establishing our forests, we founded our manufacturing headquarters in Managua to be able to make designs that were made to continuously capture carbon in our everyday lives through furniture.
Captured with a chair here is Khurland. One of our designers responisble for a large amount of our designs and has been with us from the start.
In 2014 we partnered with Justin Terry, an American artist, and Abril Zepeda, a Nicaraguan designer, to bring an elevated uniqueness to the furniture we had started to make. Inspired by the artisanal nature of Masaya and the rich culture and nature found in Nicaragua our woven collection was born.
Abril was born in Masaya the local hammock weaving inspired her to bring this ancient technique to modern day living.
Every design we make uses renewable solid wood that we grow in our reforestation projects. With over 1.5 million trees to date we are changing the way furniture is made.
